Saint Martin Island

Saint Martin is a small coral island of the Bay of Bengal, about 10 km south-west from the Cox’s Bazar-Teknaf in Bangladesh. It’'s a clean and peaceful place with coconut palms. The local name of this island is ‘Narikel Jinjira’ that’s mean Coconut Island. St. Martin Island is one of the most beautiful places of beautiful Bangladesh.

The island is 7.315 km long and is aligned NNW and SSE. Geographically, it is divided into three parts. The northern part is called Narikel Jinjira or Uttarpara and is 2,134m long and 1,402m wide. The southern part is known as Dakshinpara, which is 1,929m long, with a narrow tail of 1,890m towards the southeast, and a maximum width of 975m. A narrow central belt or Maddhyapara connects the two parts. The length and the width of this belt are about 1,524m and 518m respectively and the narrowest collar is known as Golachipa. In addition to the main island there are a number of tiny islets ranging from 100 to 500 sq m which are locally known as Chheradia or Siradia which means separated island.

There is a shallow lagoon in the middle of Uttarpara and it is connected to the sea during high tide by a narrow channel on the western coast. The topsoil of Uttarpara consists of alluvial sands mixed with shells of molluscs. There are two small dead lagoons and a stretch of marshy land in Dakshinpara. Fish landing sites, bazars and schools are present only in Uttarpara.

St. Martin's Island has become a popular tourist spot. Launches and country boats ply between the island and teknaf regularly. The population is about 3,700 and most of them are fishermen belonging to 535 families. One hundred eighty-two species of wildlife are recorded from the island. Of these, 4 species are amphibians, 28 reptiles, 130 birds and 20 mammals. tourism to the northern part of the island exists during four months (November to February). The most densely populated part is Jinjira. There is scarcity of sweet water on the island. Only a few ponds and a number of tube wells supply sweet water for drinking as well as for cultivation. Though the island falls in the monsoon zone, the climate is much influenced by the sea. The main vegetation is coconut, betel nut and bamboo. Coconut trees are abundant and more concentrated in the Jinjira area. The soil of the island is not so fertile. The main agricultural products are onion, watermelon and some rice.

Rangamati

Rangamati

Rangamati is a district in South-eastern Bangladesh. It is a part of the Chittagong Hill Tracts and the town of Rangamati serves as the headquarters of the district. Area-wise, Rangamati is the largest district of the country.

The beautiful landscape fill the eye view of Rangamati, as you can imagine there’s one main lake where you can go hiking and bathing enjoy nature at its finest, of course its recommended to spend an afternoon picnicking at the lake other than visiting any of the restaurants downtown. In this area of Rangamati certain tribes still make their day to day living, prime examples include the Chakma and Marma which make their living of homespun textile products and ivory jewelery made by the women while the tribal men are fishing for tonight’s dinner.

This is the only place to visit through out the year. Rangamati expresses her full beauty in rainy season. Trees becoming greener, waterfalls are in full tide, the river Karnaphuli in her full wave in this season. If you already visited Rangamati in winter, we advice to go there again in Monsoon you will feel the difference of nature yourself.

Tourists will also enjoy traversing the hanging bridge over the Kaptai lake, which affords a convenient vantage point for taking in the beauty of the lake. This bridge leads to another hill over the canal close to the Parjatan motel. The man-made Kaptai lake, spreading over 680 km of crystal-clear water was formed by damming the Karnaphuli river, and has a picturesque hinterland of large hills and panoramic forests. A cruise on the calm waters of the lake can be a memorable experience

Nilgiri (The Heaven is Here)

Nilgiri Mountain

The mountains of nilgiri are around 2400 to 2700 ft high from the sea level. The meander route by the vicinity of the mountain are really marvelous. you have to hire a car, or "chander gari"(local cars for public transport) to reach the nilgiri from Bandarban town.

You can observe the bewitching beauty of the mountains, where the clouds are playing with the waves of the wind. Its unbelievable site which is not expressible through texts.

The hotels of the bandarban town are really cheap. You can stay there for your travel. Also if you are interested you can stay at "Nilgiri Resort" of nilgiri mountain. This resort is controlled by the bangladesh army. You have to book the rooms around 2 weeks before you visit the place due to rush.

You don't need to take any extra permission to visit the place, but if you have any foreigners with you, or you are a foreigner, that case you have to take permission from the DC of Banderban.

If you are tarting your journey from Dhaka, that case you can use the "S Alam" or "Unique" bus service. So far I remember, its around 350 taka per person. The bus are medium quality, and runs very fast at night.

The beauty of the Nilgiri Mountain is ineffable, better watch the photos. From my mind, if a baby clicks a camera shutter at nilgiri mountain, you'll find its top class. The beauty itself the master to make your photos outclass.
